Border Condition

Can Architecture continue to relate to material space of building and cities, when this space is dissolving into a flux? How do flows address architecture and urban design? How do the liquid boundaries become formation system of flows? In Data time of nowadays there is no Border between the spaces, qualities and functions. The space dissolves in liquid border of information and there is ultimate limit for this. Inhabited space becomes crystalized and stands in network of ephemeral envelopes.
Meanwhile, building and public spaces become objects of exchange in fluid border state. In terms of Sanford Kwinter, “every movement of every part instantaneously changes the condition of the unfolding of the whole. The edge of the envelope is where time (relations) gains the computational upper hand over space (things).” What Time means in contemporary meaning mostly turns to duration than instant state. It is presented as condition instead of division thread.
Architecturally speaking, In Phillip Johnson’s Glass house, the absence of walls means that inhabitants of the house are exposed, as he said, “a wall is only an idea in your mind. If you have a sense of enclosure you are in a room.” In another TV program, he says the Glass House “works very well for the simple reason that the wallpaper is so handsome. It is perhaps very expensive wallpaper, but you have wallpaper that changes every five minutes throughout the day and surrounds you with the beautiful nature.”
One of the places that change through the time until now, functionally and spatially, is Gardens. Gardens are the places for no program social relations and how they become fluid in between the city connections is the space that I tried to find. Gardens are in-between spaces, whether they are division between houses and city or paused-space in cities and people. How these spaces become infrastructural by social events and how they connect and exchange data and information? Where are these Pause spaces with liquid border in the high-speed transition cities of today?
Events define and happen at borders. In Deleuze idea, ‘Events are like crystals; they become and grow only out of the edges, or on the edges. Events, differing radically from things, are no longer sought in the depths, but at the surface, in the thick layer of energy that escapes from bodies.’30 They, with all of their characteristics, are in-between future and past, cause and effect, already and not yet. Divisible event is always both at once. Everything takes place right at the limit, perhaps even little beyond. Every movement of every part instantaneously changes the condition of the unfolding of the whole. Every movement drags local space along with itlocal conditions with a high degree of correlation with their surroundings-so that every displacement of location is simultaneously a transformation of kind.31 After all, Border condition is just another name for that privilege event-filled place at the edge of the envelope. In high-speed resolution images of postmodern cities, we search for the pause, for the time-less void in the Perplexity of bodies. Spaces that are pulses in between the implicit functions; Sensational pulses. We need to take into consideration of a new zone of transition, a new interface taking shape between the internal space of boundaries and external space of flows. This interface in constituted by an infrastructure that acts as a porous frontier. It must not be defined as a limit to be exceeded, or an impermeable boundary that separate the city in between, but as a zone of contact, encounter and transition.32 It is itself a shifting boundary that creates folds and intervals. Moreover, this infrastructural boundary can be more social before it is technical. It supports flows, activities, relations and events. This represents a certain form of domesticity, a capacity to be both public and appropriated by individuals. In a condition with vibration of boundaries that fades the strict borders. Notion of time reflect in the border condition as impulses of event that change by the intensity of elements that define and become an event. Enclosure has gained by tension of related crystal line between events, event that are the results of body’s existence. In other hand there is a question of Flows; social flows that make that vibration. By treating the periphery as a condition of its own, defining it with autonomous enclaves with tension force of social relations, we can make such a realm visible in between the realities that saturated with loose images and memories. The space of flows in temporal border condition then appears as the new spatial form of the network-event society that lies on the simultaneity of events and interactions.
